Historically, perhaps the most important Porsche model has been the 1964-introduced 911 – a car that remained in production, in much the same form, for the next 30 years. Retaining a layout similar to the 356, the 911 was built on a steel platform chassis with torsion bar suspension, MacPherson struts at the front and trailing arms at the rear.
The earliest 911s were powered by an air-cooled, 2.0-litre, horizontally opposed six-cylinder engine coupled to a five-speed gearbox first used in the 904 competition coupe. Engine capacity increased progressively to 2.4 and then 2.7 litres, before rising again to 3.0 litres in the 911 SC. From 1984, displacement grew to 3.2 litres, and the 911 SC became the 911 Carrera.
Developed under the direction of Porsche Chief Executive Peter Schutz, the 911 Carrera 3.2 debuted at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 1983. Estimated to be 80% new, its 3,164cc flat-six produced 231bhp and 209lb-ft of torque. Mated to a five-speed manual transmission, it delivered both flexibility and enthusiasm — achieving 0–60mph in 5.3 seconds and a top speed of 153mph. To handle the added performance, the brakes were enlarged and the upper gear ratios lengthened, while a redesigned timing chain tensioner addressed the Achilles’ heel of earlier engines.
Early examples of the 3.2 employed the 915-type manual gearbox with reverse gear located beneath fifth, while 1987 to 1989 models had the stronger G50 unit in which reverse was located beside fifth. The G50 is widely regarded as a major improvement over the earlier 915 gearbox and is one of the key features enthusiasts look out for when buying a 911.
Delivered new on 28 January 1987, this UK-supplied (C16) Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 was finished in Prussian Blue Metallic with a contrasting Linen leather interior, and benefits from the all-important G50 gearbox.
This particular example, when new, boasted a high specification including a factory limited-slip differential, central locking system, sports seats, Bilstein Sports Suspension, sunroof, front and rear spoilers, rear wiper, headlamp and windscreen washers, and velour luggage compartment carpet.
Registered as D633 FRF, this example has led an interesting life. It has previously been owned by a Porsche Club GB Chairman, is a two-time Porsche Club concours winner, and even featured in a nine-page buyers’ guide in GT Purely Porsche magazine (a copy is included in the history file). A consistent theme throughout its life is that it has always been cherished – evidenced by a history file spanning two large lever-arch folders and maintenance carried out by respected Porsche specialists.
Still retaining its original engine, this well-loved 911 has been in current ownership since September 2008 and has been driven as intended. Since the owner relocated to Denmark in 2010, it has routinely covered 500+ miles in a weekend to visit friends in the UK and completed an impressive list of road trips — including four North Coast 500 tours, four trips to Le Mans, and journeys to Croatia, the Nürburgring, Switzerland, the Route Napoléon, Budapest, and Wales (three times). Having covered over 48,000 miles in the last 17 years, it is a car to drive and enjoy — not simply admire.
In current ownership, the car has been serviced approximately every 3,000 miles. Works have been undertaken consistently as required, and the car has been well looked after, with invoices approaching £40,000. Notable work includes a major bodywork overhaul in 2014 (replacement front and rear wings, inner and outer sills, bumpers and a full respray) to the tune of some £17,000, followed by a sympathetic mechanical refresh over the following years to bring the car up to standard; including work to the engine, suspension, brakes, exhaust, clutch and flywheel, engine fettling including replacement heat exchangers and more. Since then, further works have been undertaken as required and the car has been maintained to ensure reliability during its regular long journeys.
In September 2025, in preparation for sale, the car was detailed with a single-stage paint correction, and the car was entrusted to La Scala for the replacement headlining and the seats were re-upholstered. Now presenting well and with a healthy and usable 185,084 miles recorded at the time of photography, this Porsche is offered by Klasiko, ready for more adventures with its lucky new owner.
Accompanying the car is a box containing a generous selection of spare parts to support future touring. The history file includes the original Porsche backpack, 911 Driver’s Manual, Pocket Guide to Porsche Ownership, stereo documentation, Porsche service directory, and a replacement guarantee and maintenance booklet containing 16 stamps from 1987 (6,007 miles) through to May 2008 (134,022 miles). Further service records and invoices cover the current period of ownership.
A nice touch is a handwritten list of ‘dos and don’ts’ from a careful previous owner, as well as an invoice from 1989, when the car was just two years old. A plethora of invoices, previous MOTs, and the current V5C (showing six former keepers) complete the file.
Overall, a presentable, well specified, well looked after and well travelled G50 Carrera that you can use and enjoy - be quick, as it won’t be around for long!
